Simple habits that lower your air ticket price on domestic routes.
Book at the right time. On most domestic routes, fares are lowest about 3 to 6 weeks before travel and climb sharply in the last 7 days. For Diwali, Holi, Christmas–New Year and the May–June school holidays, book 2 to 3 months ahead, because cheap seats on popular routes such as Delhi–Goa or Mumbai–Kochi sell out first.
Be flexible. Tuesday and Wednesday departures and early-morning or late-night flights are often cheaper than Friday evening and Sunday flights. If your city has two airports, such as Goa (Dabolim and Mopa) or Mumbai, check both. A cabin-only (“lite”) fare can save money if you travel with just a 7 kg bag. Air Ticket Prices: What Changes Your Fare
Why the same flight can cost very different amounts, and what you can do about it.
Demand and timing. Airlines raise fares as seats fill up, so the same flight costs more close to departure, at weekends and during festivals and school holidays. Last-minute seats do sometimes drop in price, but on busy routes it is rarely worth the risk.
What is included. A cheap fare is not always the cheapest trip. Check whether the fare includes a 15 kg checked bag, a meal and free seat selection, and compare the total. For return trips, a round-trip booking and two one-way tickets can differ in price, so check both before you pay.
